The Well-Worn Path


"I have never worshipped like that before. Thank you for coming and leading us." I get told a lot of things after I sing at churches. Sometimes it's "you sing pretty," but mostly it's people thanking me for the way I lead and how I follow the Spirit of God.

As a singer sometimes I wonder if I can even sing good considering how most people only mention the way it made them feel, and not how I sounded. But the worship leader in me knows that I did my job right when I hear those comments, and that is what matters most.

When I hear those comments, I know that I invited people down the well-worn path that I daily take to the feet of Jesus. Showing them the path and inviting them to follow...to go and rest at His feet, to pour out love, and to receive love.

To me it's so simple. I don't do anything special or anything different. I just travel the well-worn path to His feet. I hope I can show others that they can worship like that any time they want. That they have continual access to their own path to the feet of Jesus, and that they can go and rest there every day.

I love this quote from Maya Angelou,

"I've learned that people will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel."

I'm thankful that I am able to somehow make people feel comfortable enough to be vulnerable with each other and worship in spirit and truth in a corporate gathering. It's scary for me too. To be so open in front of others. You never know what someone is gonna say when they walk up after a gathering. Most times I wish I could just run and hide!

The point of all of this is to encourage you to invite Jesus into your every day life. Go to Him as often as possible. Walk that path till it's worn down to dirt. Be covered in dust as you sit at the feet of your Savior. Day after day, moment after moment. There you will find your peace. There you will find your rest.
